Due to family issues and obligations, as of Jan 1st 2006 Ratsicles Rattery will be taking an official break from breeding for the next several months. We will resume breeding near the end of '06. We hope that you will still check back in for updates, and remember us when looking to adopt some wonderful rats in the future.

___________

Ratsicles Rattery is a hobby breeder of fancy rats for the improvement of health, temperament, and type. Our rats are raised in a home environment and are given one on one socialization from the day they are born.

In the coming months we will begin working on a BEW line with the help of Serendipity Rodentry  through breeding recessively blazed rats- this type of blazing does not carry the risk of mega colon that dominant blazing does and so we will be breeding towards "safe" BEW's. Colors we will be focusing on include American blues, blacks, and agoutis. We will be working with both top-ear and dumbo, mostly in standard coat. We may also begin working with dwarfs.

Our goals upon resuming breeding are as follows:

Health: Improve health by breeding only tumor and myco resistant rats. Current line has 2-3 1/2 year lifespan, and no instances of tumors. They have occasional minor respiratory problems, and I would like to integrate my lines with the rats who will be coming to me in the future for added myco resistance.

Body Structure: Current lines tend to run small and muscular. Would like to add size and slightly more cobby appearance in males, while retaining muscularity.

Eyes: Currently, eyes are are smaller than desired, sometimes squinty. Would like to improve the size and shape of my rat's eyes.

Ears:  Dumbos: Lower placed, larger ears. Top-ear: Larger ears. Main focus will be dumbo.

Colors: American Blue will be our main focus.  Other colors include black (working on getting unsilvered blacks) mink, and agouti. Would like to add Burmese, Pearl, and Russian Silver in the future.

Markings: Black Eyed White will be our ultimate goal. We would like to breed "safe" BEW's through breeding recessively blazed rats, recessive blazing not having the same link to mega colon that dominant blazing does. Other markings include variegated, hooded, berkshire, PEW, capped, and bareback.

Coat Types: Standard, would like to work with velveteen and harley in the future.

There is a possibility that we may also be aquiring some dwarfs.

All of our breeding rats and litters are pedigreed. Pedigrees are available on all breeding rats through e-mail, and a copy of the pedigree comes free with all babies.

We are members of the Georgia Chapter of the RMCA, and will be getting our rattery into NARR in the fall. All future litters will be registered with NARR. We are also members of several rat forums, and founders of the new forum RatsAhoy.com

Planned and Current Litters pages will be added when we resume breeding.
